NEWS: Emerging Economies Continue to Drive World Growth

The Dallas Fort Worth MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area), commonly referred to as DFW, is made up of 6 million people and is now the fourth largest metropolitan area in the USA. Only New York, Los Angeles and Chicago are larger. The local economy is dynamic and rapidly growing. A highly skilled work force, along with relatively low costs such as real estate acquisition and retention ranks DFW at the very top in terms of Fortune 500 headquarters and corporate relocation. A central North American geographic location, one of the world’s busiest airports, an overall positive climate, which is less susceptible to major catastrophic and business disruptive events such as hurricanes and earthquakes and, above all, a favorable cost of living add to DFW’s advantages. This is all fueled by a comparatively unregulated, seemingly endless supply of inexpensive land and capital built from decades of commodity wealth and technological innovation. Unlike other major cities of the world, there is no geographic barrier such as a body of water or mountains in any direction that will limit that growth. Traffic, although not nonexistent, is comparatively favorable because of good planning and an abundant supply of capital and construction friendly land. All in all, leaders of corporations and organizations around the world are looking to establish a presence in DFW if they have not done so already. http://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/stories/2006/07/10/daily40.html

Business and Education In Dallas Fort Worth:

ACCRA Cost of Living Index consistently reports that housing in the DFW area is one of the least expensive metropolitan markets in the nation. With a third quarter 2004 score of 80.9, local housing is 19.1 percent below the U.S. average of 100. ( ACCRA , Greater Dallas Chamber )

Total GDP for the DFW metro surpassed $250 billion in 2002, placing the area in 14th position among all states and 19th among the world's nations in total output. ( Economy.com)

DFW is the #1 metro for relocations in 2004. ( Plants Sites and Parks)

The diversity of the DFW economy allows the region to weather even the toughest downturns in key sectors. In recent downturn, losses in three important industries in DFW-technology, transportation and tourism were countered by gains in health, education and government. ( U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics )

Dallas/Fort Worth offers the largest number of college and high school educated residents of any metro in the state of Texas and among the highest in the nation. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 2.8 million residents in DFW hold school diplomas and more than 1 million have completed at least four of college. ( U.S. Census Bureau)

DFW's public universities led key competing metro areas by substantial margins in the production of Business and Management doctorates as well as in Arts and Music PhD's and they ranked second only to Silicon Valley schools in the number of Computer Science PhD's granted in the 1990s. ( National Science Foundation as reported by SRI)

Quality of Life In Dallas Texas

DFW claims two major arts districts. The 60-acre Dallas Arts District, anchored by the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center , the newly completed Nasher Sculpture Garden , is the largest urban arts district in the country. The Fort Worth Cultural District claims several of the top museums in the state, including the Kimball, the Amon Carter, and the recently added Museum of Modern Art . ( Arts District Friends, Fort Worth Visitors and Convention Bureau )

Dallas is one of the few areas in the nation with seven major league sports teams including Cowboys football, Mavericks basketball, FC Dallas MLS soccer, Rangers baseball, Stars hockey, Desperados Arena Football and Dragons polo. ( Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau )

Dallas is one of the, if not the, biggest soccer hub in the U.S. The Dallas Cup (www.dallascup.com) is world-renowned for attracting the best youth and amateur teams under 19 in the world. Its club teams such as the Dallas Texans consistently finish at the top of major US and international tournaments. The North Texas Soccer League (www.northtexas.org) is the nations largest amateur soccer organization in the country. Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas is home to Pizza Hut Park (www.pizzahutpark.com), a 21,120 capacity soccer specific facility that also includes 17 soccer fields and is headquarters to US Youth soccer. This facility is truly world class and is a model for the continued growth of soccer in the US. Pizza Hut Park has hosted the MLS Cup the last two years. FC Dallas (www.fcdallas.mlsnet.com) is owned by Lamar Hunt, one of the founding owners of the American Football League and Major League Soccer and one of the most important leaders of US Soccer. Finally, in 1994, the US played host to the World Cup, the biggest event ever in American soccer history. A total of 6 games were played at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, including what many consider the most exciting match, the quarterfinal match between eventual champion Brazil and The Netherlands.
